The New York City Department of Correction (DOC) is seeking 5 motivated and detail-oriented Part-Time Investigators to join the Applicant Investigation Unit (AIU). This critical role involves conducting comprehensive background investigations for Correction Officer candidates to ensure integrity in the hiring process. The position offers a competitive hourly rate of $32.17 – $37.00 and is ideal for organized professionals with investigative experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive pre-employment investigations for Correction Officer candidates.
• Perform investigative interviews with candidates and collateral contacts.
• Conduct field visits to businesses, residences, and relevant locations.
• Review digital forums, social media, and online platforms for undisclosed information.
• Verify authenticity of submitted documentation through investigative validation.
• Maintain detailed and accurate investigative reports and confidential records.
• Coordinate investigative assignments and ensure timely completion.
• Collaborate with AIU team members and assist with special projects as needed.

Preferred Skills

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google applications.
• Experience conducting investigative research using authorized databases and internet sources.
• Familiarity with social media and online content review.
• Ability to manage multiple assignments, meet deadlines, and maintain accurate records.
• Strong attention to detail, organization, and discretion in handling confidential information.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent plus 4 years of full-time experience in accounting, auditing, correction administration, criminal justice, forensic science, law enforcement, or related fields; OR
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college; OR
• Education/experience equivalent to the above criteria.

Additional Information

• NYC residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. Certain employees may reside in surrounding counties after 2 years of continuous City service.
